Patient Recording of Consultations

Patients may request to audio record their consultation with a GP or other clinician. This is permitted only with the consent of the clinician involved. Consent must be clearly obtained at the start of the consultation.

Recordings are for personal use only. Any sharing or circulation, including on social media or messaging platforms, is not permitted. Doing so may breach confidentiality, data protection, or dignity-at-work policies, and in some cases could be regarded as harassment, bullying, or defamation.

Video recording is not permitted under any circumstances.

Covert recording (i.e. recording without the clinician’s knowledge or consent) is strictly prohibited and may constitute a breach of trust, confidentiality, and other relevant policies including our code of conduct and data protection policy.

No recording of any kind (audio, video, or photography) is allowed anywhere else in the practice, including waiting areas, corridors, or reception. The practice is not a public space and other patients and our staff are entitled to privacy.

Any concerns or requests regarding recording should be discussed in advance with the clinician or practice manager.
