Chronic Sinusitis is facial pain and nasal blockage or discharge cause by inflammation of the sinuses in the nose. Chronic Sinusitis is NOT caused by a Bacterial infection and does not require antibiotics. You will require an appointment so we can look up your nose. Please continue the form and we will be in touch within 48 hours. Do you Smoke? * Yes No Smoking is a common cause of Chronic Sinusitis. Smoke damages the lining of your nose and sinuses leading to increased risk of infections and causes chronic inflammation resulting in your symptoms. We would strongly advise you to cut down and stop smoking. You can find information on stopping smoking or refer yourself to a local smoking clinic here. Chronic Sinusitis Treatment About Chronic Sinusitis: It is an inflammation and swelling of the lining of your nose and sinuses. It is not an infection and does not require antibiotics. The Cause is unknown but is possibly a combination of repeated viral infections and allergy. Treatment of Chronic Sinusitis: There is no cure for Chronic Sinusitis and it may last for months before settling. Salt Water rinses. These can be bought from pharmacies and supermarkets such as Sterimar or you can make your own at home as described in this article. Steroid Nasal Sprays such as Beconase are powerful anti-inflammatories. These can be bought from pharmacies and supermarkets and used for 3 months. Alternatively, we can prescribe one for you. Reduce potential allergens by vaccuming regularly to keep dust and pet hair to a minimum. Consider buying hypoallergenic linen. How Would You Like to Proceed? I would like you to prescribe the nasal Steroid BECONASE and I will try it for up to three months. I have already tried Beconase and I would like you to prescribe AVAMYS, the strongest steroid nasal spray.
