Non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) include medications such as Ibuprofen, Naproxen, Diclofenac, Etoricoxib, Indometacin and high dose Aspirin.

They are effective painkillers but come with potentially severe side effects such as stomach ulcers, bleeding in the bowel and rarely kidney damage.

  • Should always be stopped if you have a period of illness

  • Contact the practice if you are passing blood or have tarry, black poo

  • Should be taken at the lowest dose required to control your pain for the shortest period of time

  • If taken long term, you should be on a stomach protecting medication such as Omeprazole or Lansoprazole
